Secret Rainbow
This moment exists for only a few seconds, and only from one place on earth: in the ocean, behind the wave. Captured at an outer bombie off Long Reef on Sydney's Northern Beaches, this image was taken seconds after a fifteen-to-twenty-foot wave had detonated and rolled through. As the offshore wind tore the spray from its back, sunlight refracted through the mist and a rainbow appeared — arcing over the open ocean, visible only from behind the wave, from the water itself. No shoreline, no boat, no drone sees this. It's a perspective reserved for those willing to swim out to meet swells of this size, and a phenomenon that vanishes as quickly as it forms.
